Today's students must be able to think critically about global events and relationships and to understand situations and systems within global contexts. In fact, a 2013 survey conducted by the Association of American Colleges and Universities found that 78 percent of employers prioritize knowledge of global issues and of societies and cultures outside of the United States.
We also know that study abroad enhances college success and that those who study, intern, and volunteer abroad have higher retention and graduation rates. And, as noted above, these high-impact experiences expand students’ career possibilities by developing the skills, attitudes, and perspectives that are so highly valued by twenty-first-century employers.
