Despite the university’s best efforts, many Long Beach State students encounter a variety of roadblocks as they navigate the path toward graduation. Our students or their families may have experienced sudden job loss or an accident or illness. Some do not have a place to call home or access to regular meals. In fact, recent studies revealed that food insecurity is an issue facing an astonishing 41 percent of students on CSU campuses.
With these problems coming into clearer focus, Long Beach State responded by creating the Basic Needs Program, a comprehensive initiative that addresses housing and food insecurity on campus. Donations made to the Basic Needs Program during LB Giving Day will benefit the Student Emergency Intervention and Wellness Program (Student Emergency Fund), which helps students in emergency situations, and the ASI Beach Pantry, which provides students with perishable and non-perishable food items, as well as toiletries and school supplies.
It is crucial to be there for one another when times are hard and hope seems so far out of reach. Please support our efforts by making a gift on March 15 to the Student Emergency Fund or Beach Pantry.
