Thank you everyone who helped us launch our campaign at Saturday’s 20th Anniversary Celebration. The room was packed with alumni, parents and friends of the program who helped us honor the past while we build the future.
For the next 28 days we’re asking everyone this program has touched; alumni, parents and proud supporters of academic excellence, to join us with a donation to help us reach our goal of $20,000. If each of our 1,098 Scholar alumni gave $20 that would put us at $21,960.
Whether it’s $5 or $500, your gift is a vote of confidence in the future of this Program and a declaration of your support for future generations.
Through December 15, we’ll be updating the site with messages from Scholars (past and present) and sharing some of the behind the scenes experiences that make this program so special. Here’s an early look at the photos from Saturday’s event.
Thank you for your support and Go Beach!
Dear President's Scholars Alumni,
Although I no longer work with the PS Program at CSULB (for those that may not know, I took a part time job at Cypress College to spend more time with my daughter and prepare to adopt a second baby), it is such a special program to me and my memories of being there and working with all of you keeps me engaged and supporting the program in whatever ways that I can!
As many of you know, this year marks the 20th year of the President's Scholars Program (wow!) and we enjoyed celebrating with about 200 friends of the program at CSULB Homecoming last weekend as we looked at old yearbook pictures and visited with donors, parents, current Scholars, and Alumni, cheered Go Beach, took pictures, and had a champagne toast in honor of the program. We also have been working on a publication/magazine that will be online and we will have some printed copies with articles, pictures, and some great stories about the program. Look for more to come on that!
The great things is that even with some personnel changes, the new President Jane Conoley is committed to the program (she even walked the new PScholars out on to the court at halftime for Homecoming which was very cool), Valerie is still at the helm with all her passion and folks like you and me still really care about the program and we want to see it helping students for another 20 years. I am sure you remember at least one if not many times that it made a huge difference in your life.
In honor of this milestone of the program, our great new Annual Leadership and Giving Director Kendra Komar has set up a super easy way to donate money to the program and we are asking everyone to give $20 in honor of the 20th Anniversary in the next 22 days!
Please take a moment to visit this link below, watch the very cool PScholars video on the site, and give...our goal is $20,000 and you know how even a little adds up with a lot of supporters.
Remember that ways to stay connected to the PS Program and CSULB include:
CSULB President's Scholars on Facebook
CSULB President's Scholars on Linked In
Send any mailing address updates/personal updates to Valerie.Bordeaux@csulb.edu, or Kendra.Komar@csulb.edu or me and I will forward to them.
Attend CSULB sporting events or just stop by to say hi!
Happy Holidays and warmest affections to you and your families! Go BEACH!!
Jennie Hurley (former PS Associate Director and lifelong friend of the program)
As we reflect on the Thanksgiving holidays and this past Giving Tuesday (Dec. 2), we are so grateful to each and every one of you who makes this program so special.
Twenty years after the start of this program we have 138 Scholars studying at CSULB, impacting the campus and community through their service and innovation. Each President’s Scholar is a unique individual who comes to this campus to share in a transformative educational experience and leaves to pursue excellence in a variety of fields. Your support is vital each year as we plan and prepare to admit a new class of President’s Scholars.
Your support of this campaign is a vote of confidence in the program and the students it serves. Our alumni continue to inspire and amaze us with their commitment to service and their contributions to their communities. Thank you not just for your support, but for your commitment to continuing this tradition of excellence. Make your gift, of any size today!

3 Days left – share with 3 people
With THREE days left for the President’s Scholars 20th Anniversary campaign, we have 20% left to go. Even if you’ve already made your gift, you can still help us hit our goal!
On behalf of over 1000 students who have benefited from the President’s Scholars Program of California State University, Long Beach, we want to express our deep appreciation for your support. The young men and women who study here as Scholars come from across the state, representing 42 different counties and over 350 high schools. They are bright, curious and deserving students who impact our campus and local community through their service and leadership.
Help us continue to bring the best and brightest of California to the Beach.
We did it! THANK YOU for helping us raise $20,200 in our President’s Scholars 20th Anniversary crowdfunder campaign.
I was so inspired to see so many familiar names on the donor wall. As I look back on 20 years of this program, I’m incredibly humbled by the overwhelming support we received. It was truly a team effort and I’d like to give a special thank you to Jennie Hurley and Lindsay Sterk for their tireless efforts in reaching out on behalf of the program. I also want to thank those that made their first donation to CSULB and to the Scholars. Your donation is a declaration of your support for this program and I’m so honored you made our program your first choice. For our long time supporters, thank you for continuing to make this the premier President’s Scholars Program in the state!
To everyone, thank you, thank you, thank you! Your support means the world to our Scholars.
Best and …GO BEACH!
