About Crowdfunding

California State University, Long Beach FAQ

What is Beachfunder?

Beachfunder is the official crowdfunding platform of California State University, Long Beach, offering an interactive and more personal experience when supporting university and student-led projects and initiatives across campus. With crowdfunding, it is the collective power of our community of donors that creates an impact. Beachfunder allows donors to contribute to specific areas they are passionate about via grassroots philanthropic fundraising.

If you are interested in using Beachfunder to raise philanthropic support for an official CSULB project or program, please check out our Crowdfunding Guidelines and submit your application.

How will crowdfunding be used at CSULB?

Crowdfunding at CSULB will be used in a variety of capacities, including fundraising for research projects, scholarships, specialized equipment, service projects, student organization trips, and other top priority projects. Project leads can utilize Beachfunder to tell the story of their projects, fundraise, and share the impact they’re making on campus and beyond.

I am interested in making a gift to a specific sports team at CSULB. Where can I choose a team to support?

You can choose to support a specific team HERE on our Athletics Beachfunder Page.

Who can create a Beachfunder project?

All registered CSULB student organizations, departments, colleges, and faculty are eligible to apply for a Beachfunder project. All submitted projects are considered and approved on an individual basis.

How do I market my project?

Project teams should expect to promote their project. The larger the marketing efforts, the more likely the project will be successful. Past projects have utilized social media to market their crowdfunding campaign, peer-to-peer outreach via email, text and phone to friends and family, as well as on-campus promotion.

Project leads are expected to come to their pre-launch intake meeting with marketing ideas on how they will promote their project, what channels they will use, and what audiences they will target. During the intake meeting, we will also provide resources for your crowdfunding journey and an overview of our efforts to help promote your project. URD does not provide any contact data for alumni, parents, friends or students. It is up to the project’s crowdfunding team to leverage their personal contacts and networks to lead a successful fundraising effort.

What do I need to do to create a project?

Project leads must read the Crowdfunding Guidelines prior to submitting an application. Project applications must be submitted six weeks in advance to project start date. Once submitted, a staff member will reach out for next steps.

Where will my project be listed?

Selected projects will appear at beachfunder.csulb.edu

What should my project goal be?

It is suggested crowdfunding goals for each project fall in the $2,000-$25,000 range. Projects with goals outside of this range are also welcome.
