CNSM Student Research and Travel Support
CNSM Student Research & Related Expenses
Many CNSM students extend their classroom learning into labs, the field, and the broader scientific community. Working alongside our expert faculty, they gain hands-on research experience formulating hypotheses, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting their findings at professional conferences. These research experiences build skills, boost confidence, and prepare students to graduate career-ready. This is CNSM’s “secret sauce”- a distinguishing advantage that sets CSULB students apart.
But research and research-related travel are expensive. Supplies, equipment, conference fees, and travel can easily exceed $2,500 per student per semester - a cost that often presents a significant barrier to participation. Your support can help remove these obstacles, enabling future scientists and mathematicians to access transformative, career-launching opportunities.
Thank you for contributing to our students’ success!
“It often feels like we learn in the vacuum of the classroom, but being able to go to the lagoon, conduct a real-world experiment, analyze the data, and present our findings all within a semester was incredibly fulfilling. It made the significance of the work feel much more tangible.” - Garret Maloney, Earth Science
“Research has helped me incredibly during my education by obtaining help and guidance from my research professor, and by being able to apply my chemistry knowledge. It also has helped me understand more about the classes I take, making me a better intuitive person when facing challenges...Lab research is a great way to make connections and build up skills for your future career. My lab mates and research professor make my lab experience very valuable and enjoyable since I can ask questions or ask for their help when making mistakes.” -Javier Rios, Biochemistry ‘25
