CSULB’s Pacific Standard Time vocal jazz ensemble has been invited to travel to Cuba for a cultural exchange and performance tour.
This journey promises to be not only transformational for our students but also a significant diplomatic endeavor that contributes to a better, more connected world. This trip is transformational on multiple levels. For our students, it offers an immersion into a rich and vibrant musical culture. Cuba’s musical heritage, particularly its jazz scene, is renowned worldwide. By experiencing this culture firsthand, our students will gain invaluable insights into new musical styles, fostering personal and professional growth. It will also enhance and broaden our ensemble’s musical perspectives, which we can then share with our local community and the greater vocal jazz community in the U.S. upon our return.
This initiative can serve as a model for other cultural and educational groups, showcasing the profound impact that such endeavors can have. Pacific Standard Time’s trip to Cuba is not just a journey; it is a mission to transform ourselves, build diplomatic bridges, and contribute to a better world through the universal language of music. We hope to gain your support for this remarkable opportunity, and we are excited about the positive change it will bring to our ensemble, the College of the Arts, CSULB, and beyond.
We kindly ask that you assist us in this important endeavor. We look forward to the possibility of sharing this transformational experience with your support.
Kindest regards,
Christine Guter CSULB Professor of Music Director of Vocal Jazz Pacific Standard Time
