SharkSat (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronauts Project Club)
Our first satellite, SharkSat-1 has a scientific mission of collecting and dispersing blue light pollution data to educational non-profit organizations such as DarkSky International, who also serve as an advisor. Blue light pollution can have various negative effects on the environment, human health, and wildlife. We founded this project less than a year ago and have since come so far, gained lots of technical support and learned a lot from engineers at NASA JPL, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, the US Space Force and more. Our proposal has been submitted and are now looking to prove that we can fund the mission and be successful. Besides BeachFunder we have raised over $10,000 and have been donated thousands of dollars' worth of space grade equipment and software from various companies. Along with our scientific mission, our first and most important mission under AIAA, is to shape the future of aerospace by having local high school students integrated into our project and along for the ride to send the first satellite to space made by Long Beach students.
