Beach Engineering Student Success Team Scholarship (BESST)
The Beach Engineering Student Success Team (BESST) Scholarship recipients are traditionally underrepresented in engineering fields and receive this scholarship after successfully completing the year-long BESST program and passing Calculus 1 with an A or B.
BESST students are freshman selected for the program because their K-12 math education has been inadequate for them to be successful in engineering. The BESST program provides a wraparound of support – from peer mentors (buddies) and classes taken as a cohort to supplemental instruction, tutoring, career exploration, and free textbooks.
Over the past 10 years BESST students are passing Calculus 1 and completing their degrees at a higher rate than the student body overall. Keaton (in the video) came through the BESST program, received the scholarship, and went on to serve as a supplemental instructor helping the next wave of BESST students.
We invite you to help support scholarships like BESST in the College of Engineering this Giving Tuesday!
