This project still needs support, please contact, Paras Shah at Paras.Shah@csulb.edu if you would like to make a gift. Thank you and go Beach!
This incredible hands-on learning experience is taking place now (even in summer) on the Cal State Long Beach campus. Our students are creating and driving all aspects of building an 850 sq ft home – from design, permitting, business plan, and marketing to the final construction of this innovative and sustainable ADU – titled “MIDOORI.” The project is a finalist in the Orange County Sustainability Decathlon, which is focused on developing sustainable solutions to housing scarcity. CSU Long Beach will be competing with 17 other finalist University teams from the UK, China, and the U.S. The tilt-up walls are now up and locked to each other in a series of 5 modules for easy transportation and re-assembly at the Orange County Fairgrounds where they will be judged over 10 days. Your donation is needed to complete the project to a level that gives our team the best chance of winning. Water conservation features, including energy-saving windows and renewable energy systems will make a big difference in the team's competitiveness and can be more costly than conventional building products. For instance, the entire solar energy generation and battery storage system is $15,000 and the greywater recycling and rain capture and usage system is $7,500. More than a typical student project, the MIDOORI student team members plan to launch a business based on what they have learned. Please give what you can. Every amount helps.
