As many of our country’s college students are struggling financially in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. Job loss and layoffs among parents, guardians, and students themselves has become commonplace — and a growing source of concern for universities like CSULB.
According to a recent story about college-bound high-school seniors published in The Chronicle of Higher Education, this loss of income security “is affecting some groups more than others, notably respondents who are from lower- and moderate-income households, who are first generation, and who are located in cities.”
Nearly half our students are Pell Grant eligible (a low-income indicator), and an estimated one-third are first-generation college students. In other words, many CSULB students are in these hardest hit groups. The reality of fall 2020 is that more CSULB students will need increased scholarship assistance (and other forms of support) if they are to stay in school and realize their academic dreams.
The importance of scholarship funding to our students and university simply can’t be overstated right now. Please help us meet this growing need by making a donation of any size to the OneBeach Scholarship Fund.
