A fund to support students in healthcare at CSULB.
Gaby was born in Lima, Peru in 1958 to Frida Arce Caceres. There she gave birth to her first son, Robert Garcia. Gaby, her mother Frida, her husband at the time, and her son Robert all immigrated to the United States in search of the American Dream.
Gaby came to the United States with dreams of a better life for her family. She worked as a maid, clerk, and other jobs until she landed as an assistant in a clinic. That job began her life long career in healthcare.
In 1991 she was hired to work in an Oncology Clinic. For almost 30 years she worked as a secretary and medical assistant. She cared for thousands of patients over her lifetime. It was her life’s work to support nurses, doctors, and medical personnel. She married Greg O’Donnell in 1993 and later gave birth to her second son, Jacob O’Donnell.
While Gaby was never able to attend college, she always said that her greatest accomplishment was seeing both of her sons graduate from California State University, Long Beach.
The family encourages returning women and immigrant students to apply to continue Gaby’s work of supporting patients and caring for those who are sick.
