Thank You to Darrell Auxier

May 17, 2018

Thank You to Darrell Auxier At the Men's Volleyball 2018 Season Banquet, former Long Beach State men’s volleyball player Darrell Auxier and his wife Christine made a $27,000 donation to the program. He chose the amount based on the 27 years that passed between the team’s 1991 and 2018 National Championships.

In addition to their generous contribution, Darrell also made this gift to challenge the alumni to make donations. “I was in the Ukleja Suite a few years ago,” Darrell explained. “I saw (former LBSU men’s volleyball player) Harold Noriega’s name on the donor wall. I saw that he had made a sizeable contribution a few years ago. At the game that night, we were sitting together and I said, ‘Harold, that gift is pretty sizable.’ Harold said, ‘D, everything that I have is either directly or indirectly related to volleyball and Long Beach State. The contacts I made, the job opportunities, everything - it’s the least I can do.’ He inspired me to want to support this program. Everything I have is credited to my time here at Long Beach State. I believe in what Coach Knipe stands for and how is he is developing these young men.”

Thank you, Darrell, for your generous contribution!

Long Beach City Council Championship Recognition

May 14, 2018

LONG BEACH – After capturing the 2018 National Championship, the Long Beach State men’s volleyball team will be recognized at the Long Beach Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 15 at 5 p.m.

The Beach registered one of the best seasons in program history as they went 28-1 and boasted a program-record 24-match winning streak and closed the season out with a five-set victory over No. 3 UCLA to win their second-ever National Championship.

“The City of Long Beach is excited to recognize the Long Beach State men’s volleyball team,” Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia said. “Winning a National Championship is no small feat and we are honored to have this team representing our city.”

Long Beach State was led by USMC/AVCA National Coach of the Year Alan Knipe who collected his 300th career win in his 15th season at the helm of the program. Additionally, the Beach boasted five AVCA All-America selections including the 2018 AVCA National Player of the Year, Josh Tuaniga.

The Beach finished the season with a nation-leading .375 attack percentage as well as the best record in the country for a winning percentage of .966.

The Council meeting will be held in the Council Chamber in City Hall.
